Methods: The University Personality Inventory (UPI) was used to test the 21 492 freshmen during 20092012 in Nan-jing University of Financeand Economics. Re

3、sults: The mental health of students had a favorable development, the proportion of the students with serious mental health problems was among 6.95%8.38%, the proportion of the students with mental health problems was among 11.99%20.54%. 4、s in boys was significantly higher than those in girls （ p0.05 ） ,the proprtion of older and younger students was higher than those in normal age （ p0.05） ,the pro-prtion of ordinary universities students was higher than those in key university and independent college （ p0.05） , the top 10 mental he

Conclu-sion: Colleges and universities should be insist in mental health survey in freshmen, improve mental health education, and focus on the groups with problems.
