3、rruption challenges CPCs legitimacy and threatens Chinas stability. A systematic review of the literature uncovers no investigation on the Chinese peoples reception and reaction to the corruption, on the internet. This is a first attempt to do so.This is a research into the feelings and thinking of
4、Chinese internet users (e-public) on (anti)corruption in China. Specially, it tries to document and analyze the commentsereaction of the e-public to news articles on various aspects of Audit Storm in JuneeJuly 2004. 1. Introduction Corruption is pervasive, rampant, enduring, and above all else a tol
5、erated and taken for granted social problem in China.In March 2004, Jia Chunwang, the prosecutor-general of the Supreme Peoples Procuratorate, reported investigating 39,562 cases of corruption and dereliction of duty involving43,490 officials in 2003, leading to charging of 26,000 officials and reco
6、vering of 4.3 billion yuan for the state. In 2007, Jia Chunwang reported that Prosecutors investigated more than 180,000 cases of embezzlement, bribery, dereliction of duty and rights violation in the past five years (2002e2007), a marked decrease from prior year. But convictions rose 30.7 percent t
7、o nearly 117,000. Thirty-five officials at the provincial or ministerial level, 930 at the municipal level and nearly 14,000 at or above the county level were investigated for embezzlement, bribery, and misappropriation of public funds in the past five years. Corruption is a major concern for the po
8、litical leaders, general public and foreign observers. The CPC espoused a zero tolerance policy to keep corruption under control. President Hu Jintao speaking at the 16th CPC Central Committee, stressed: The CPC never tolerates corruptionresolutely punishing and effectively preventing corruption is
9、crucial to the popular support for the Party and its survival. In 2007, Transparency Internationals latest Corruption Perceptions Index rated China at 3.5 out of a possible 10 point scale, which ranks it about halfway between the worst countries (Myanmar and Somalia, both 1.4) and the best (Denmark/
