6、novel are involved in male-male sexual acts; however, as many of these boys are said to be forced into prostitution by various external forces (e.g. poverty, family abuse, and various catastrophes), their image differs conspicuously from the (stereo)typical image of the contemporary tongzhi, whose gayness is often perceived as originating from within.
