Design/methodolog y/approac h The study is based on a su
4、rvey of 100 UK-based freight forw arders -based and empirically tests the firmsrespective revenue generation struc tures, as w ell as the range of servic es offered. The survey is c omplemented by semi-struc tured interview s at a further four c ompanies in order to provide additiona l c ontextual e
5、xplanat ions of the empiric al findings. Find ings The results show that diversific ation appe ars to be c losely relat ed to both c ompany size and a diversif ied asset base. The motivation for diversif ic ation stems mainly from a perc eived erosion of the traditiona l freight forw ard
6、ing revenue streams, as c ompanies are seeking higher profit margins outside their traditiona l c ore business, w hile addressing the inc reasingly c omprehensive needs of their c ustomers at the same time. The findings show that, although diversif ic ation is muc h less prominently seen in their revenue struc tures, c ompanies are quite diverse in terms of the servic es offered.
